Yoo Ah In to Return to Wide Screen While “Punch” Goes to BIFF

Good news for all Ah-in fans! Yoo Ah-in confirms that he’ll return to the wide screen and back to the shooting field on November!

Kstar10 reported~

The “SungKyunKwan Scandal” star Yoo Ah-in will turn to a former gangster in his new big screen project.

The actor has confirmed his leading role in “KKangcheori” [tentative title], the film’s production company The Dream Pictures told 10Asia magazine over the phone Wednesday.

Scheduled to crank in November after finalizing its casting boat, director Ahn Gwon-tae of “My Brother” (2004) and “Eye for an Eye” (2008) will wield the megaphone in the Busan-based pic.

The human drama centers around a man [played by Yoo] who clears up his gangster life to earn a living to support his mother’s hospital fees.

Yoo, who kicked off his acting career by starring in KBS teenage drama “Sharp” in 2003, has shot to stardom through the same channel’s hit series “SungKyunKwan Scandal,” co-starring promising actors Park Yuchun and Song Joong-ki, in 2010.

After gaining a notable success with book-to-film “Punch” last year, he recently starred in SBS’ drama “Fashion King” opposite actress Shin Se-kyung.

Another human drama? I think it best represents Ah-in’s idealistic stand. Director Ahn Gwon-tae is best known for his movie “My Brother”, starring Won Bin, which is also a human drama ruled the big screen at the time it was rolling.

Wiki quoted as saying, “My Brother” was released in South Korea on Oct 8, 2004 and topped the box office for two weeks. It is the No. 6 best selling domestic movies in South Korea in 2004 with 2.48 million admissions.

Based on the director’s record, I do hope Ah-in’s upcoming movie will hit big, just like his previous one “Punch/Wandeugi”.

Talking about Wandeugi, this movie itself is making a good way this time around.

Yoo Ah In and Wandeugi are officially participating on the upcoming Busan International Film Festival, October 5th.

In addition to that, Wandeugi and Yoo Ah In will also take part on the 24th BUIL Film Awards which kicks off on 21st September until 10th October.

Will this movie or the actor snatch a trophy from one of these award shows? Once again, cross your fingers and hope for the best!

Let’s get excited for his new upcoming movie too! Yay! 😀

[Update 2012.09.13] KOFIC announced last Wednesday, Kim Ki-duk’s Venice-winning pic “Pieta” has been chosen as the Korean entry for the Oscar. Aww,…too bad. Not your luck yet, Wandeuk but it’s okay!
