(Yoo Ah In’s tweets on 21st Dec)

December 20th

Mr. Huh Ji Woong, I want to retweet all your tweets today.  This is one of them.  This kind of mental process produced the result of Korean presidential election which turned out to be a tragedy.  The logic of the progressive camp is substituted into an ethical issue which means “we are the truth and you are the absolute evil” and is causing an exhaustion for the middle class of the society. You’ll never win this way.

December 21st

Now, 48% of the voters should accept 51% of the voters’ choice. If not, respect it, embrace it.

You should hold a hope, not despair by asking for the impossible which is emigration to another country.  You should not curse the country.  At least those who are called mentors or leaders should bring a hope in real life, not in fantasy.

The ad-libbed joke of the progressive party or teasing from the conservative party only causes class bipolarization and disillusionment of people again and again.  You can choose the candidate of president but cannot choose the president on your own.  The candidate Park was elected as the next Korean president in the 18th Korean presidential election and this is the reality of Korea.

You should realize why you’re holding a gun before you load a gun with anger.  A purpose of the war is a victory but the war has never been the purpose itself.

Whether you are angry or welcome, you should understand and evaluate today’s society with logical thinking, moral standards and historical consciousness of each person. (It is) not just a dichotomy which is an ethical structure of good and evil.

You shouldn’t long for the misrule of the next government.  Instead, you should worry about the misrule.  What we really want is that they do well first, as if there’s no need to change the government term after that even if it sounds like a fantasy.  That is for the country. You should wake from the past and go forward.  That is what we call ‘progress.’ People shouldn’t stop watching them and (should) speaking out loud.  People shouldn’t be afraid of politics and action and let them be a real worker not a hero.

Even if you didn’t bear any fruit from the election, the desire of almost 50% of the vote is not an absolute value which means the candidate Moon himself got 50% support.  It was reflected in the change of the government led by dissatisfaction toward the present and superficial desire of the change.  The progress should go further and you should offer enough thanks and cheers for Mr. Moon.

The opposition party should go back to the root of the progression which is buried under old conditions.  The ugly tend to be afraid of looking at their faces in the mirrors.  They should definitely have a total face and soul plastic surgery.  They should say goodbye to mistranslated rhetoric like commie or following North Korea, put an end to religious fantasy of saving the world against evil, and make the dignity of ‘progression’ strong– the word (‘progression’) itself is a super ordinate concept than conservatism.  They should embrace and persuade people with the dignity of value toward positive changes and developments of the human society holding incomplete destiny.  On the other hand, they need to prove if that’ll provide direct benefit for people’s lives and living for the long run.

Stagnant water is bound to corrupt.  Whether it is where the ruling party or the opposition party is, I hope both of progress and conservative watch each other carefully to stop the concentration of the power, and to support and to focus on pending issues of the country to materialize the policy well.  First, what we have to do is to watch the presidential transition team and to monitor what’s going on with the makeup of the next presidential transition team being just and fair.  That’s what so-called democracy is.

I don’t want to fully react against Ms.Park while saying ‘Ms.Park should keep her word’ but standing behind her back because she will face the promise of people’s great union.  She can make a better world just to keep her own words on banners that are on the streets and crossroads.  Let’s keep watching how much percentage she can carry out her words about how she can make a perfect Korea.  Since she said ‘stick to her promise’, I think I’m going to push her to make it with responsibility of the promise as the political weapon.  If needed, I’m going to support her.  If the next president lets people down by throwing away her promise and belief, she’ll be tried before the judge of the history.  Pessimism is the worst.  Whether it is romantic or ideal, no more excuse of the reality, be ‘progressive’ and cherish a hope.

Lastly, I’m throwing f**k you to nasty ridicule toward our generation said by Baek Won Dahm who was so disappointed.  Our youth won’t be exploited easily as you wish.

After bearing it for a month, I’m pleased to write 1400 letters in such a small 140 letters room.

After listening to more diverse thinking here, I will filter out, and not just listen to what I want to hear.  I was narrow-minded, too.  Compared to 300,000 followers that I have, I only follow 100 people.  I heard pretty much the same things and thought those things are all and true.  (I am) following conservative members.

I have no idea about the detailed dynamics of the politics.  I’m just an average person in Korea.  This word can be a safety device for me.  I’m going to Busan to shoot ‘Kangcheori.’  I’ll focus on my work and not forget that my life is soaked in politics perfectly.

2 years ago after watching SKKS I searched him on internet and found his English interview article. I was like..wow this person was so mature beyond my imagination, and he was just 24 yrs old! That’s why we always call him old soul. Now reading this brings those feelings again. It brings in the first reason why I’m still following him until now. He’s just not your ordinary star and I’m soooo proud of YOO and sooo proud being his fan! Thanks so much for this amazing piece, Mathed nim & Little Birdie! 🙂

  3. Thank you so much, Mathed, for this long-awaited translation of YAI’s twitters! I never ceased to be amazed by his maturity and sincere commitment to what he believes in. His comments made me feel so impressed! They also sound very poetic to me, somehow. I hope YAI will enter politics at some point to become one of the driving forces for the moral progress of Korean politics in the future! / I also hope he will finally get the King Sook Jong role! I’m simply looking forward to seeing him in any role really! 😀
