[PHOTOS & VIDEOS] Update on Yoo Ah In’s Drama Jang Ok Jung Week VI

AINyeong SIKseekers~ here we go again with update on Sik’s drama ‘Jang Ok Jung, Live In Love’ ^ ^

With the upping makjang elements, ratings for Episode 11 and 12 is picking up, which means more domestic viewers watch the drama. But these episodes left international viewers with mixed feelings and opinions. I watched them twice; first without subs and second time with subs. Surprisingly, I got a different perspective when I watched them for the second time. I think the last 10 episodes are epic and these two don’t make a par with them. However, they’re actually not that bad and better than I’ve first presumed and expected.

The frontal power cat-fights at the back palace between Great Dowager Queen Jo and Dowager Queen Kim can be tiring. The transformation from sweet Ok Jung to scheming Ok Jung is too much out of her character, though we saw that she’s capable of doing that on episode 8. However, I could still enjoy the dynamic exchange between Lee Soon, In Hyun, Ok Jung and his ministers.

I didn’t find the king was too busy with his “new toy” as I first thought or as some people kept harping on. He’s still doing his daily job as a king and working on political elements besides putting his lover to better position in the palace. He acknowledges the collaboration of his step grandmother with Ok Jung’s uncle and the Southern Party, and he compromises with them to keep things in check in a court full of Western Party. The conflict between the king and his ministers~ how they’re trying to cut off his fund by opposing his coinage project/monetary policy, and how he cleverly uses his minister’s word to hit two birds with one stone: present Ok Jung the Chwi Seon Dang pavilion and elevate Ok Jung’s status to level Sukwon at the same time~ is still interesting. He also knows that Ok Jung as Jang Sukwon has started a way of politics from her position, a politic to “look after” him, and he lets her do it knowing she’s capable of.

As for the transformation of Ok Jung, based on what she said to Prince Dong-pyeong, after the nearly dead experience she came to realize she would need a power to stay beside the King. The inner thought of Ok Jung shows that she has no choice other than defending herself alone because nobody can help her, not even the king. I don’t mind with scheming Ok Jung but I wish she plays it out smoothly. One can be evil in mind but still looks innocent and graceful outside and one doesn’t have to be so frontal threatening their opponents. I wish the writer could take example of Shakespeare’s Iago.

All in all, this show is still decent to watch for my liking and I’m very invested in “SoonJung Couple”~ blame it on the great chemistry that Yoo Ah In and Kim Tae Hee deliver. Episode 11-12 still provides their sweet moments and I’m craving for more before the storm hits, because I can see it coming.

Now let’s go back to our update, shall we? 😀

First off is the videos galore~

Jang Ok Jung released the third OST this week. The OST is called “The Season of Love” by Rumble Fish. I don’t know if this is by accident or not, but Rumble Fish is one of Yoo Ah In’s favorite bands. He even sang one of their songs on his birthday celebration with his fans back in 2011. Let’s listen to “The Season of Love” audio version~
