Yoo Ah In Donates 100 Million Won For Underprivileged Children + Translations On His Speech

Sik did it again right at the beginning of the new year~! And we are so proud of YOO! 🙂

Yoo Ah In has donated 100 million Won (approximately $90,700 USD) to children in needs!

The Beautiful Foundation general secretary told reporter on January 13th, Yoo Ah In has made his charitable donation to The Beautiful Foundation through “New Kids Yoo Ah In Charity Fund” account.

The fund of KRW 100 million is made through the sales profits of his self-designed t-shirts Nohant “Newkidz” and “Love City”. The fund will be used to aid Supporting Business for Youth Cultural Activities and tuition fees for university students retiring from the residential care center for adolescents.

The Supporting Business for Youth Cultural Activities is a program from The Beautiful Foundation that provides opportunities to experience diverse activities for adolescents in culturally estranged environments. The fund will also be used to provide aid for college tuition and educational expenses for the students who attend college while living in or after retiring from residential care centers.

Yoo Ah In, joining hands with local clothing brand Nohant, launched “Newkidz” and “Love City” t-shirts last May 2014, which has been selling like hot cakes ever since. He designed the shirts himself and promoted as its model as well. All proceeds from the sales of the shirts are given to The Beautiful Foundation, a non profit center which supports the underprivileged children.

In his open letter to the Beautiful Foundation, Yoo Ah In revealed his motif behind his 100 Million Won donation, “Children in underprivileged groups can’t help but to run the unfair and unequal race on top of the tracks built by the adults. I’m trying to provide the opportunity for children to grow without being forced to the dark sides or edges of the society, and instead become the progressive, competitive and dignified leading forces of the future.”

Yoo Ah In is always interested in the social issues, especially the underprivileged children. Since 2010, Yoo Ah In has been actively participating in child cares activities. He campaigned the “Child Care” for schools, and opposed the government’s plan on cutting the spending of school’s lunch program. In January 2013, he quietly donated 77 million Won for children through The Beautiful Foundation as well [read HERE].

Also, Yoo Ah In took part in social works for St. Mary Orphanage with his Korean fans club since 2011. His latest social work in St. Mary Orphanage was done last Saturday, 10th January 2015, where he visited the orphanage with his fans.

In addition, Yoo Ah In launched his own creative company ‘Studio Concrete’ which consists of a group of artists just 3 months ago. With Studio Concrete, Yoo Ah In is personally planning the assistance programs for children and youth through cultural activities and arts education.

Meanwhile, Yoo Ah In’s Korean fans club “Ainese” also caught attention by participating in the fundraising per Yoo Ah In’s birthday present request. The fans club started raising the money since the beginning of January 2014 to commemorate Yoo Ah In’s 10 years acting anniversary and celebrate his birthday. They raised about 14.8 million Won for The Beautiful Foundation, and gave the certificate of donation to Yoo Ah In on 5th October, in his birthday fanmeeting event. The donations are used to provide a winter bedding, underwear and childcare facilities for children.

Yoo Ah In wrote an open letter which is published on the Beautiful Foundation website. Here are the translations~

I lost words to describe how awesome, genuine, genius and generous this man is!! I came across an article of another young Korean actor who said he was afraid of losing his popularity. Yoo Ah In will never have this fear because he aims BIGGER than a mere popularity in his life!! I’m SO SO SO PROUD of him!!!
