Yoo Ah In Narrates KBS1 Documentary “Flying Like Wandeuk”, to Broadcast 28th February
Yoo Ah In will be the voice actor and narrate the KBS documentary special production for the “Multicultural Youth” called, “Flying Like Wan-deuk”. It is a documentary program based on Yoo Ah In’s 2011 blocbuster “Wandeugi” (also known as “Punch” and “Wandeuk”).
In case you haven’t watched this movie yet~ Wan-deuk is a poor 17-year-old boy who lives in a single-room home with his father who is teased because of his dwarfism and a mentally challenged ‘uncle’ to whom he has no blood relation. Already heavily burdened enough, the boy’s confusion is increased when he finds out he has a Filipino mother who suddenly shows up one day.
The movie deals with the difficult growth of a multi-cultural family teen in an era where labor moves across borders and unfairness and conflict are brought to the surface because of it – but the film portrays it with the cinematic grammar of a buoyant comedy. (More here)
KBS “Flying Like Wan-deuk” tells the story of the multicultural children and how they see the Korean society through their eyes. Just like Wandeuk, the children also deal with the issues of living as a multicultural teen.
“Flying Like Wandeuk” first broadcast on KBS Gwangju local channel on 26th December 2014, and will broadcast nationwide on KBS1 channel, Saturday 28th February 2015, 8PM KST. Here’s the trailer
There’s another good news on Wandeugi or Punch as well. On last January, Punch is picked by one of best US film websites, taste of cinema, as #1 In The 20 Overlooked South Korean Movies That Are Worth Watching. Go check their take on this in taste of cinema website 🙂
