More Characters Added For Yoo Ah In’s Sageuk “Six Flying Dragons”

Facts_Feature

News outlet reported that SBS new Monday-Tuesday historical drama Six Flying Dragons gets a head start on filming. It has already begun filming the portions with child actors in mid June. It’s four months ahead of its first air date, which is scheduled on October 5 this year.

So far filming involves only the child actors who will play the younger versions of Yoo Ah In and Shin Se Kyung’s leading characters. Adult actors will begin to appear in the drama starting episode three or four.

Shooting so far in advance is unusual as many dramas only begin filming about a month before their scheduled airdates. But the story has a lot of historical ground to cover. Six Flying Dragons depicts the stories surrounding the six historical figures with Lee Bang Won in the center during the last period of Goryeo, right before Joseon was founded. This drama will deal with the younger days of Lee Bang Won before reigning as King Taejong of Joseon.

While the drama has started filming the portions starring child actors, Six Flying Dragons has completed the cast for main and additional roles including Kim Myeong Min, Cheon Ho Jin, Byeon Yo Han, Gong Seung Yeon, Jung Yumi and more.

Yoo Ah In plays Prince Lee Bang Won (or Yi Bang Won). The prince helped his father (played by Cheon Ho Jin) found the Joseon dynasty and thought it earned him the automatic succession. But he had to fight his brother princes to secure the throne. Once he acquired that throne, he wanted to maintain complete authority.

Kim Myung Min plays Jeong Do Jeon, the prince’s political rival, a man who hoped for a more democratic nation. Jung Do Jeon wanted a country ruled by ministers, while the prince wanted to retain absolute power.

Shin Se Kyung plays Boon Yi, the woman that Lee Bang Won loves. But she is not the only woman in his life. Gong Seung Yeon, last seen in Heard It Through The Grapevine and We Got Married 4, has been cast to play her romantic rival; Min Da Kyung, the future Queen Wongyeong.

Byun Yo Han plays a warrior named Yi Bang Ji who guards Jung Do Jeon. He and the man he protects are in love with the same woman named Yeon Hee, played by Jung Yu Mi (Maids 2015).

Yoon Kyun Sang plays Moo Hyul, Yoo Ah In’s bodyguard.

Park Hyuk Kwon (Producer, Heard It Through The Grapevine, Secret Love Affair) plays Kil Tae Mi, the best sword fighter of all. He is Lee In Im’s student (Lee In Im was a military hero and high official of Goryeo) and becomes the best sword fighter, but he has a weakness for accessories and fancy make-up.

And last but not least, there are Lee Cho Hee (Who Are You – School 2015) plays a singer, Seo Yi Sook (Unkind Ladies) as Moo Hyul’s grandmother, and Jo Hyun Shik (Misaeng 2014).

Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon, the writers crafting the screenplay for Six Flying Dragons,ย previously wrote the successful saeguk Tree With Deep Roots (Deep Rooted Tree). Director Shin Kyung Soo also worked on Tree With Deep Roots, and Shin Se Kyung appeared in Tree With Deep Roots as well. Six Flying Dragons is a prequel to that one, as it features some of the same characters when they were young.

Two interesting things about Gong Seung Yeon and Park Hyeok Kwon.

Apparently, Secret Love Affair‘s PD Ahn Pan Seok highly recommended Six Flying Dragons as a good work to Gong Seung Yeon.

On the interview with TV Daily last month, Gong Seung Yeon said that she discussed about the proposal from SBS with PD Ahn Pan Seok (the PD of Secret Love Affair and Heard It Through The Grapevine). Upon hearing from her that Yoo Ah In is the lead actor in Six Flying Dragons, PD Ahn highly recommended the drama and encouraged Gong Seung Yeon to accept the proposal.

Gong Seung Yeon said that PD Ahn talked a lot about Yoo Ah In and his acting. “He told me that it’s a too good work with too good actors. He said, ‘it’s a good work for you’. PD Ahn praised Yoo Ah In all around. He said that I would be able to improve my acting skill if I play together with Yoo Ah In. Working with him would really be an honor to me. I watched Yoo Ah In’s previous works, he’s a very cool actor.”

Park Hyeok Kwon and Yoo Ah In have been working in the same projects for several times. They both star in the movies Boys Of Tomorrow, Antique, and drama Secret Love Affair. This drama will be their fourth project together. I hope this time the two will have a nice relationship on screen ๐Ÿ˜€

Six Flying Dragons will be aired after the completion of currently running High Society followed by Mrs. Cop.

He will start filming around August, I guess. Gonna be a very busy month!

SFD should be the same period as… The Great Seer(fall of Goryeo Dynasty) , Empress Ki(fall of Yuan Dynasty&Wang U), Tears of Dragon(fall of Goryeo and founding of Joseon dynasty), Empire of Lust (movie), Maid and maybe the early part of Deep Rooted Tree…

But SFD is focus on Yi Bang-won …Hope the plot is built of significant events in a given story.
And YAI will give more than 100% to his job as Yi Bang-won for sure๐Ÿ˜Š

SFD is the prequel of DRT, so yeah it’s the earlier period of DRT and same period as TOD, EOL and the likes. So many tv series and movies are made based on the story of Yi Bang Won’s reigning period. I hope this drama can give more interesting plot for viewers to stick their mind to it.
