Veteran Wins Best Feature At Sitgest International Film Festival, to Join More Film Festivals, New Stills Out

Some more good news for the hit crime-noir Veteran.

First, Veteran was awarded the Focus Asia (Casa Asia) Award Best Feature Length Film at the 48th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

The Sitges Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya) is a Spanish film festival and is one of the most recognizable film festivals held in Europe. It is considered the world’s foremost international festival specializing in fantasy and horror films. Established in 1968, the festival normally takes place every year in early October in the coastal resort of Sitges, 34 kilometers West-South-West of the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

CJ Entertainment official stated on Oct 20, that director Ryoo Seung Wan was invited to the official competition of the 48th Sitges International Film Festival, October 9 to 18 in Spain. Veteran, starring Hwang Jung Min and Yoo Ah In, was screening at the Official Fantàstic Òrbita section.

Veteran was awarded Best Feature Length Film in the festival, while talented director Ryu is honored the Grand Prix Award. This is his second Grand Prix from Sitges after his 2011 movie The Unjust.

Veteran won the award for its story dealing with the social problems in an action thriller that combines action choreography and comical situations.

Ryu said on his speech, “This is the most difficult genre to communicate with foreign audience, but I’m glad it worked. This award goes to the Veteran team and all the filmmakers. Let’s keep creating the movie together. I will share more good works in the future.”

Second, Veteran has been invited to the 2015 London East Asian Film Festival (LEAFF) as the opening film.

Officials said on Friday 16th Oct, Veteran‘s director Ryu Seung Wan and producer Kang Hye Jung are invited to the festival on Oct 23. The inaugural London East Asia Film Festival will be taking place from the 23rd to the 25th October 2015, starting with the opening film Veteran.

Veteran will be shown at Odeon’s Leicester Square cinema on the evening of Friday 23 October! After the film will also feature Chief Programmer Chris Fujiwara’s on-stage Q&A with Ryoo and Kang Hye Jung.

Third, Veteran will join the 13th New York Korean Film Festival. On Oct 13, the New York-based cultural organization, The Korean Society, published the first teaser information for the 13th New York Korean Film Festival.

Ryoo Seung Wan is invited to the festival. The renown auteur is highly regarded for his contribution to groundbreaking Korean cinema, with credits ranging from Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance to The Berlin File.

Veteran producers Kang Hye Jung and Park Jung are also included on the list of artists whose presence has been requested for the event. The New York Korean Film Festival will be held from November 6 through 11.

And last but not least, Veteran is invited to the Hawaii International Film Festival where Yoo Ah In’s other movie The Throne will be opening the festival as well. Veteran is also invited to show at the Korean cinema section in this festival which will be held from November 12.

Veteran has garnered 13,407,449 viewers since opening last August and was crowned the best blockbusters of the year.

Veteran pits rule-breaking but incorruptible police detective Seo Do Cheol (Hwang Jung Min) against super rich, sociopathic corporate heir Cho Tae-oh (Yoo Ah In). This comic action extravaganza takes us on an exciting, often very funny ride through Korea’s social divisions and rough justice (Gangnam-style or otherwise), and features the kind of thrilling, elaborate and hilariously over-the-top action sequences that have become Ryoo’s stock in trade.

Released in domestic cinemas in August, the film has already struck a chord with local audiences, becoming one of the most popular films of all time in Korea.

CJ USA released more new stills from the film, featuring the sexy villain Yoo Ah In~^^
