[VIDEO & TRANS] Yoo Ah In Awarded Style Icon Awards, Performs At the 2016 SIA
As we’ve previously reported, Yoo Ah In has been selected as one of the ten style icons who will lead the fashion trend in Asia.
The 2016 Style Icon Asia Awards, known as SIA 2016, is the biggest style festival in Asia. The award expanded its area throughout the Asia this year.
Winners of the “Style Icon” awards at this year’s “Style Icon Asia” were determined in part through an Internet survey conducted from January 29 to March 3 on the show’s official home page as well as Chinese portal sites.
The survey asked respondents to choose who they expect to be the hottest trendsetters in 2016, and included 50 Korean nominees as well as 10 nominees from the rest of Asia.
The Top 10 Style Icons were determined through a combination of the survey results, data compiled from social media postings of fans from all over the world, and the opinions of expert judges.
The ten stars chosen as Style Icons this year are G-Dragon, Yoo Ah In, Girls’ Generation, Ha Ji Won, Honey Lee, Lee Jung Jae, Chinese actor and singer Li Yi Feng, Park Bo Gum, Song Joong Ki, and Song Seung Heon.
This is Yoo Ah In’s second win at Style Icon Awards after 2011 SIA, and also his second win at the fashion awards in 3 months. Earlier in December 2015, Yoo Ah In and Gong Hyo Jin were honored The 2015 Fashion Icons at the Korean Designers Awards (on a side note, Gong Hyo Jin said in her interview last January, that she would love to act with Yoo Ah In in a romcom, so I pray to drama god that it will come true!).
The ten stars received awards at the Style Icon Asia Awards 2016 (SIA 2016), which was held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza on March 15th.
Yoo Ah In could not go on the stage due to his schedule, and delivered his acceptance speech through video instead right from the Six Flying Dragons drama location. BUT, he made a big surprise by revealing his “secret” art project he once mentioned in the V App Live Fanmeeting.
Yoo Ah In, in collaboration with Berlin-based Korean DJ Peggy Gould, became the SIA Show opening through an art music video titled “Hung Hung Hung” (subtitle “Heungbu-ya or “Hungboo-ya”).
Yoo Ah In appeared in the SIA Opening night through a special performance video
with DJ Peggy in the video making, produced by his Studio Concrete team
“Hungboo” is a new wave music with a mix touch of African sounds and Korean’s pansori (Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer) with trendy style. “Hungboo” was taken from a Korean fairy tale “Heungbu and Nobu” brothers. This story taught the lesson of treat others the way you want to be treated, and that you should appreciate what you have. (Read the story here)
Yoo Ah In’s unique appearance, costumes and witty expressions drew attention of the audience, while he was re-interpreting Heungbu and Nobu characters, as the new figures in a modern society dominated by capitalism and the human desires to be the member of high society that lead to emptiness. Following the music video, Yoo Ah In appeared in a message video with his Lee Bang Won outfit.

“I feel happy and honored to be chosen as one of the style icons. I produced the SIA opening video together with my friend Peggy Gould, a German-based DJ. I’m not able to come today, so I would like to use this performance for the acceptance speech instead, since I think it will be fun.
“I hope you can relish my message video with a fresh feeling and interpretation, and hope that this video match well with SIA opening and its image as well.
“During the year 2015 I received a lot of love from many people and spent time with great ease. Thank you for loving my works. The love that I got when I gave a part of me was beyond my expectation. I’m a very happy person. I will repay your love to me someday someway. This is all of your victory. Thank you.”
So so proud of our real artist Yoo Ah In 😀 Congrats!
