Jung Jun Ha tried to act as Yoo Ah In’s character in the movie, completed with the famous catch-phrase “Unbelievable! [how ridiculous!]”😀 Although he was earning some points from his acting, Jung Jun Ha was forced to stop by Yoo Jae Suk, because he just could not stand it anymore :p
Seems netizens enjoyed this episode~^^

Anyway, which Korean celebrities are most supportive of their parents? The answer will surprise most of you!
A TV entertainment show has revealed a list of eight stars who have been generous helping their parents before and after their stardom. “The List 2016” aired on tvN Monday, May 5th, and Yoo Ah In was named as the runner-up after Girl’s Day Hyeri on the top list!
The show revealed that Yoo Ah In bought four houses for his parents in 2013, in Daegu, where he grew up. He also bought luxury cars for his parents as his way of showing appreciation for their efforts in raising him.
The show also elaborated on Yoo Ah In’s career. Yoo Ah In debuted when he was still studying at an art high school, majoring in western painting. He was a troublemaker in school and skipped classes that his parents were often called to the headmaster’s office. He was street-cast on the 10th grade, and debuted as an actor in 2004 in a big hit drama “Banolim” (Sharp). Then, he left home and school to pursue his career as an actor in Seoul, despite his parents objection.
After taking a break for half a year, Yoo Ah In made a comeback in the entertainment industry through the 2007 movie “Boys of Tomorrow”, where he received best new actor awards. The movie led to him signing for more series, commercials and movies, and finally his parents accepted his decision to become an actor.
In 2013, Yoo Ah In bought four houses and luxury cars for his parents after starring in the movie “Tough As Iron”. He dedicated the movie to his mother.

Also, guess which stars who don’t abuse their celebrity status? It’s quite a rare thing in the showbiz, but I’m proud to say that our Master Sik is one of the few!
On the recent episode of the variety program “Heard It Through the Grapevine” on May 2, some issues regarding celebrities misusing their status as famous people for product sponsorships were brought to light.
Celebrities are often allowed to sponsor a product, such as clothing and accessories, as a form of advertisement. The product is usually loaned by the company with the expectation of its return in its original condition.
However, the show revealed some cases in which celebrities took advantage of their status to break the rules. One celebrity, referred to as “C,” did not return a watch priced at 17 million won (approximately $15,000) after he got it for product sponsorship, saying that the PR for the brand is amplified if he wears it.
Another celebrity “L” failed to return a sample designer bag she sponsored, giving the excuse that she lost the item, only to be caught redhanded when she was seen carrying it to a private occasion.
The studio was surprised to learn of these actual cases of status abuse, prompting the panel to ask, “If there are celebrities who take advantage of product sponsorships, aren’t there ones who refuse product sponsorships?”
To this, Hong Suk Chun answered, “Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young do not take advantage of product sponsorships.” Yoo Ah In was mentioned as another celebrity who doesn’t receive sponsorships. He said, “It seems Yoo Ah In refuses product sponsorships because he doesn’t want to use the love from his fans as a means to make money.”
And finally, we got to know the fanboy side of Yoo Ah In a little bit further!
Perhaps, not many people know that Yoo Ah In has been a fan of rocker, songwriter and Jaurim frontwoman, Kim Yoon Ah (Kim Yuna). He went to Jaurim’s concerts several times and once tweeted his praise to the singer.
Just recently, through a TV program “Yoo Hee Yeol Sketchbook”, Kim Yuna revealed how big Yoo Ah In’s admiration at her.
In the interview with Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook aired on KBS 2TV, April 29, Kim Yoon Ah introduced her new single ‘Kyrie’ and revealed that Yoo Ah In was her fan.
On this day, MC Yoo Hee Yeol asks, “How was the reaction of your friends after listening to ‘Kyrie’?”
She answers, “This is a tough situation, as I don’t want to sound like bragging. But Yoo Ah In is one of my fans,” she says, making the audience surprised.
She goes on, “By chance, we met several times through acquaintances. I let him listen to the single before its official release. After listening, Yoo Ah In told me, ‘I listened to this song over a thousand times’, and he asked me a lot of questions about the song and my thoughts whilst writing it.”
Kim Yuna continues, “He cited the lyrics and asked, ‘How did you come up with my heart beats incessantly it feels painful in my chest, why don’t you just kill me?’. I was really surprised.”
She got herself a bit puzzled too, but Yoo Ah In told her, “I know you are very good in writing metaphors, and this just stabbed directly to the pain. I’m in awe.”
Kim Yuna says, “The lyrics are not about my own personal experience but of someone else’s. Because of what he said, I realized that my lyrics could touch the others in a way that they could feel the pain too. Yoo Ah In is such a cool person.”
Yoo Hee Yeol agrees, “I think he’s such a great friend”.
Well, not only Kim Yuna who’s dubbed a great lyricist, Yoo Ah In is dubbed as a great writer too. The MBC Radio Star’s writers told Yoo Ah In that he’d better stop writing, otherwise they’ll lose their job!😀
On the February 2nd episode, MBC Radio Star had the writers turning on the podcast and sharing their stuff. On this day, the best-selling authors and music composers Bae Sun Tak and Kim Dong Young praise Yoo Ah In’s writing skill.
Bae Sun Tak says, “Have you read articles written by Yoo Ah In yet? Yoo Ah In, please stop writing, I’m gonna lose my job. Please don’t make me despair.”😀
Kim Dong Young adds, “I want to be your publisher. Please, contact me.” Then he praises Yoo Ah In, “He writes so well compare to the real writer. He’s really good!”
So, it was not a surprise when a recent survey revealed that Yoo Ah In was second to the national MC Yoo Jae Suk as the best-selling author the publishers want to work with.
A recent survey, conducted on May 30th to twelve big publishers, revealed the celebrities they thought having bestseller power that they wanted to work with.
The stars’ SNS makes greater influence than the media do. Their favorite food, hangouts and fashion get popular as well. What about the book? Twelve big publishers participated in the best-selling author survey and was asked ‘which star-authors do you want to work with?’
Yoo Ah In came in second place after MC Yoo Jae Suk. The publishers said, “If we sort out Yoo Ah In’s scattered posts from his social network service (SNS), it will form a collection of essays. We can see his concerns and passion of youth, and his unstoppable criticism towards the older generation.” Rocks on!
Besides these famous writers and publishers, Yoo Ah In’s co-star in Secret Love Affair, Mrs. Kim Hee Ae, expressed her amazement on his writing skill too.
In the SK-II promotional event on March 2nd, actress Kim Hee Ae was asked about acting alongside younger men in her dramas. One of the questions was about her thought on Yoo Ah In, her co-star in the 2014 drama ‘Secret Love Affair’.
Kim Hee Ae said, “I’m in awe reading some articles written by Yoo Ah In. He seems to have read a lot of books to have such a good writing skills. He is a very smart actor.”
This wasn’t the first time she praised Yoo Ah In. In regards to male actors, Kim Hee Ae considers Yoo Ah In as her most powerful or intense partner.
She says on the interview: “There is a friend whom I really like. His acting is too good, and has a perfect figure. I like his immediate concentration and solid acting. Even though he’s a junior, acting is too easy for him, (to the extent that he should make me feel irritated), but on the contrary, he rather motivates me. If he met with a really good director, he could become an international actor. Out of all male actors, I’m rooting for his future the most.”
Remember, that in the ‘Secret Love Affair’ press conference, she also said, “Yoo Ah In has the charm of a tough guy, but he has bright and cute eyes. When he played the piano, he looked really beautiful. He is an actor with colorful charm.”
In addition to his excellent acting and writing skills, Yoo Ah In is an avid reader, and sometimes he shares what he is reading through his SNS. As a result, the books which he selected get more popular.
On the May 10 broadcast of tVN’s The Secret Readers, two books that Yoo Ah In recommended were voted by the audience, which consisted of the filmmakers, to the TOP100 “Books of My Life”.
Yoo Ah In’s recommended books from Bernard Werber “The Tree of Possibilities” came in sixth place, while Slavoj Zizek “Did Somebody Say Totalitarianism?”, ranked 93 in the top 100. Yoo Ah In showed both titles in his instagram and bookshelf before (see here and here), as the books that he enjoyed reading.
Not only do filmmakers pay attention to his literature choice, the South Korea’s politicians do the same as well, including his fashion choice!🙂
On the episode of JTBC’s talk program “Ssulzun” that aired on March 3rd, the hosts analyzed the controversy of candidate’s banners in the preliminary election.
It revealed the inconvenient posters of various politicians with big shots of face. MC Kim Gura asked about the politicians treatment before making this kind of banner.
Conservative right-wing writer/broadcaster Jun Won Tchack said, “Some of them underwent the hair transplant and cosmetic surgery to get rid of wrinkles. The procedure takes less than nine minutes.”
The former Minister of Health and Welfare/Justice Party member Rhyu Si Min added, “This is an advance procedures done quietly by plastic surgeons and dermatologists. Nowadays, physical appearance has become the politician’s capital too.”
Kim Gura asked why the candidates were not allowed to wear the bow tie. Jeon Won Chaek replied, “Because the bow tie makes you look like the boss of a [criminal] organization (laughed).”
Rhyu Si Min added, “I think bow tie makes you look like a nightclub waiter (laughed). If you are looking for a tip, today the trending physical appearance [among politicians] is Yoo Ah In.”
Wow, surprise suprise🙂 But apart from being a trendsetter, Yoo Ah In is actually one of the best business savvy celebrity CEOs!
On March 7 episode of tvN’s “The List”, business savvy celebrity CEOs were introduced. On the list, Yoo Ah In was ranked number two.
Yoo Ah In runs a creative studio he put together for new, budding artists. He studied art in high school and has always been interested in art. In 2014, Yoo Ah In established an artists’ studio located in Hannam-dong (named STUDIO CONCRETE).
The studio is a combination of a gallery and cafe. This creative space was brought together and utilized by fellow artists Kwon Ba Da, Kwon Chul Hwa, and Kim Jae Hoon, and Casper Kang. As we can see, Studio Concrete has made an impressive portfolio in a span of one year. Good job, CEO Sik and staff!
Talking about capable people, do you know that rapper/entertainer Eun Ji Won from Sechs Kies showed his skill in making “Yoo Ah In Origami” on MBC Capable People😀 We know he’s a genius, right?
On March 4th broadcast of MBC Capable People, the guest stars showed their works on origami that combine human and animal.
Eun Ji Won introduced himself and his work by saying, “I want to fold the whole world in a piece of paper. This origami is special, since we can produce human resembles animal with just a sheet of paper all at once,” he explained philosophically.
“Why would you do anything like this,” asked MC Kim Gura, while picking up a piece of dog origami, which was pasted to Yoo Ah In’s face photograph. Eun Ji Won replied, “I just made it out of the boredom.” LOL
In Sechs Kies heyday, Yoo Ah In was still a nine or ten year-old boy, who never dreamed of becoming an actor before. However, his first drama “Sharp” (Banolim/Banolrim), which became the mega hit in 2004, changed everything. Just recently, two people from “Sharp” bring back the memories of the talented teenager Yoo Ah In.
Actress Kim Jung Min recalls that Yoo Ah In is a noona killer since the beginning!
On May 4th broadcast of KBS 2TV ‘1 vs 100’, actress Kim Jung Min became a guest, and she shared a bit story about her first drama “Sharp” (Banolrim). “All the actors who starred in this drama have become the top stars now,” she said.
“There’s one memorable thing that I still remember until now, which I think is quite a legend; it is Yoo Ah In’s audition. He auditioned in front of the writers, who were all women. He was told to perform a seducing scene. Once he uttered ‘noona’ (older sister), he passed the audition by getting all the writers’ nods unanimously! I think he’s got a charm since he was young.”
The drama PD, Choi Se Kyung, also had a hunch that someday Yoo Ah In would become a superstar.
When a reporter was taking Yoo Ah In’s picture at the “Banolrim” (“Sharp”) filming location, 11 years ago, the PD said, “Soon this photo will have a great value in the future”.
Now, looking back at the photo he was taken, the reporter wrote in regret, “Had I known what would happen now [how big Yoo Ah In is now], I would have taken more pictures of him back then”.
Talking about PDs, it seems that the PD of a controversial reality show “Launch My Life”, in which Yoo Ah In starred in 2011, are still friends with Yoo Ah In, despite the fact that their show was “messing around” with his “Guroh” image back then (which could also mean that he was trolling us because he didn’t mind at all.. lol).
The main writer and PD teamed up again for Mnet “Your Voice 2”. In the interview with tvN, December 2015, MC Lee Teuk told the others, to their surprise, that these writer and PD still kept in touch with Yoo Ah In.
“We made his character as cold and harsh, otherwise the plot wouldn’t work out,” said PD Lee Sang Min. But Yoo Ah In didn’t mind it, because the PD said, “I still speak to him by phone until now.” Kewl.
As a veteran in the showbiz, Yoo Ah In proved that he is a good sunbae that the juniors look up to. Do you know that he advised Park So Dam to not go under the knife?
One of the trendiest stars right now, Park So Dam, appeared on MBC’s ‘Radio Star’ on January 20, and the MCs brought up the fact that she had acted with Yoo Ah In in two movies: “Veteran” and “The Throne”. They hinted that Yoo Ah In must have predicted her success.
She replied, “He told me while we were filming “Veteran” not to get plastic surgery and that he would like to continue seeing me like this. Two months after, I went to greet him during the reading of “The Throne”. He told me that although I keep getting small roles, it was nice for him to see me continuing on.” Aww.
Gong Seung Yeon also shared her story about how considerate Yoo Ah In as her senior.
The actress sat down for an interview for Showbiz Korea, where she was asked about her experience acting alongside Shin Se Kyung and Yoo Ah In in the historical series “Six Flying Dragons”.
She said, “Yoo Ah In sunbaenim is cool when he focuses on set. It makes me think he was meant to be an actor when I see how he gets completely into it for an emotional scene.”
As for the bed scene with the actor, Gong Seung Yeon revealed, “This is the first time I’ve been married in a drama. There was a proposal, a bed scene, and hugging. It was all a first for me. I was really nervous and awkward, but he made it comfortable.”
What a kind and thoughtful senior!
For sure, many younger actors want to act alongside Yoo Ah In too. In his interview with 10Asia, April 2016, actor Seo Kang Joon admitted there were only two actors in Korea he badly wanted to work with.
He said, “Yoo Ah In sunbae-nim and Ha Jung Woo sunbae-nim. By all means, I want to try acting together with them, regardless of the genre. It’s my dream to appear together with them.”
Meanwhile, to the actors who are much more senior than him, Yoo Ah In shows a lot of respect, even when he is drunk!
Senior actor Kim Yoon Suk, who acted alongside Yoo Ah In in the 2011 hit movie “Wandeugi” (“Punch”), shared his story about drinking with Yoo Ah In. He said, “Yoo Ah In is not easily get wasted”.
Kim Yoon Suk and Kang Dong Won reunited in the upcoming movie “The Black Priest”. Kim Yoon Suk acted with Yoo Ah In in “Punch” (Wandeugi) before. This re-team up brings their past interview about the three of them.
During the interview on the MBC Section TV, Kim Yoon Seok told his story about the difference between drinking out together with Kang Dong Won and Yoo Ah In.
Kim Yoon Suk said, “Kang Dong Won never sent me home, he never spent one night outside after drinking. Kang Dong Won’s legs were too long, so it’s not easy to get wasted and drag him home. So, most of the time I had to withdraw myself earlier before he got drunk.”
However with Yoo Ah In, Kim Yoon Suk said the otherwise, “I went drinking with Yoo Ah In many times, and even though we drank a lot of wine he wasn’t affected at all. He didn’t get wasted easily,” he praised.
He added, “When he got wasted, Yoo Ah In just got more chatty, but he never dropped his honorific while talking to me even once. He kept sober and barely got tipsy at all”. Ha!
Yoo Ah In is also known to be very supportive of his fellow actors as well. On May 14, Chinese netizens posted photographs of actors Yoo Ah In, Song Hye Kyo, and Song Joong Ki from a Beijing fan meeting on their Weibo account.
The photo shows the three side-by-side in a pose reserved for close friends, with Song Hye Kyo in an enviable position, draped across the two actors’ shoulders. The photos were retrieved from Song Joong Ki’s phone to be shown at his fanmeeting.
According to some sources, it was Song Hye Kyo’s stylist birthday party, and Yoo Ah In treated them all as the birthday present too! Now, here’s a bit translations from Joong Ki’s fanmeeting regarding the photos.
MC: You took the pictures with Song Hye Kyo and Yoo Ah In
SJK: Yes we did
MC: Are you close with Song Hye Kyo and Yoo Ah In?
SJK: Yes, Yoo Ah In has been my close friend ever since we acted together in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” in the past. This photo was taken two days prior to my Beijing trip
MC: Was there any occasion that made you take this picture?
SJK: Ah In-ssi owns a restaurant [note: the name is Too Much Information aka TMI Fries&Bar]. He’s promised to feed me something tasty. Didn’t I tell you that I was hungry? That’s why I ran over.
Not only to his juniors and friends, Yoo Ah In also showed his support to his fellow “Six Flying Dragons” actor Byun Yo Han.
On May 18th, Yoo Ah In went with Yoon Kyun Sang to watch Byun Yo Han’s musical, “Hedwig And The Angry Inch”, at Hongik Art Center. The three took a picture together at the backstage after the show was over.
Yoo Ah In posted Byun Yo Han’s picture too in his instagram with caption: “Cheer up, Byun-wig!”😀
Meanwhile, the latest news reported that “Six Flying Dragons” receives enthusiastic responds in Iran!
On May 23rd, Arirang news belatedly reported that the popular sageuk series, “Six Flying Dragons”, was screening in Iran earlier in May.
Following the craze of “Dae Jang Geum” (Jewel in the Palace), which earned 86% of local ratings, the cultural diplomacy between Iran and Korea continues with the broadcast of other sageuk series.
During President Park Geun Hye’s visit, historical dramas such as “Six Flying Dragons” and “Jang Young Sil” were screening in the Korea Culture Week in Tehran, Iran.
Arirang covered the capital city Tehran’s audience reaction towards Korean dramas. It appears that “Six Flying Dragons” garnered huge respond from the local viewers. The screening applications were fully booked in less than 3 hours. Daebak! With this big interest, “Six Flying Dragons” might be next to air in Iran after some Asian countries.
Now, talking about “Six Flying Dragons”, a drama official told newsen that Lee Bang Won’s hairstyle was Yoo Ah In’s idea.
“When we were discussing about Lee Bang Won’s pre-visual and pre-costumes, Yoo Ah In wanted to try the long hairstyle on his head first. Although there were pros and cons regarding his choice, he was quite stubborn to stick to his guns. Turned out, the concept received good response from the audience [especially since hairstyle was the part of Lee Bang Won’s transformation]. He’s a gifted actor.”
Not only taking care of the details of his characters, Yoo Ah In is concerned about the little things which support his drama too. The jeweler from drama “Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love” (2013) says that Yoo Ah In took care of the ring that he was wearing in Jang Ok Jung press conference.
A famous Korean jeweler, Jung Jae In, was being interviewed on May 11th. Her collection have been used as properties in popular dramas, such as “You Who Came From Another Star”, “Doctor Stranger”, “Jang Ok Jung”, and “Mask”, and also popular group’s MVs, such as BAP, Teen Top, Twice, GOT7, and more. Her collection has flown to Cannes Film Festival through the movie “In Another Country” as well.
In her interview, she mentioned Yoo Ah In as an actor who truly understood how to treat an artwork.
When asked if there was a celebrity she felt thankful for wearing her jewellery, she answered, “We thank those who wore our jewellery with good heart, which left good memories. One of the good memories are the Jang Ok Jung press conference. I would like to thank Yoo Ah In, who took care of our jewellery in that occasion, in particular, the ring.”
She continued, “The ring was not in the original plans since I didn’t have much the ability to make men ornaments, so it was wrong in many ways. The size did not fit his finger, I felt embarrassed when he wore the loose ring. But Yoo Ah In made it in a way that it looked nice.”
She said, “When Yoo Ah In was being interviewed and photos were being taken in the press conference, he often raised his hand, and held both hands (so the ring was visible and wouldn’t slip off his finger). I watched the scene, and I was really impressed.”
We are all impressed by YOO!
PS: AOMG’s Gray likes Yoo Ah In and thinks that he resembles Yoo Ah In too! What do you think, folks? ^^
