Yoo Ah In News Bits: From Best Movie Actor to Studio Concrete Exhibitions, Yoon Kyun Sang, Ji Soo & BewhY

Welcome back to the new edition of Yoo Ah In News Bits, where we give you all the news flash from our boy during his break from the drama/movieland ๐Ÿ˜€

Picking up where we left, having made the headlines for hanging out with “Show Me The Money 5” judges, Kush and Zion.T, Yoo Ah In appeared in InStyle, July 2016 issue, with all the winners of Baeksang Arts Awards.

(behind the photoshoot at Baeksang backstage. cr: DC)

As we already knew, Yoo Ah In won Best Actor prize in the TV Sector at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards, and all the winners got a special photoshoot and highlights in InStyle magazine [see the photoshoot here]. Now, the photo and article has been published by InStyle magazine. This photo just sums up his and our feeling of winning best actor! ๐Ÿ˜€

The color version edited by fans~

Speaking of best actor, Yoo Ah In got a new famous admirer. A renowned award winning novelist (40 years old) Jang Kang Myung admits in his interview, that he is motivated by Yoo Ah In, and calls him his mentor.

Jang Kang Myung is one of the most celebrated novelists in Korea. His bestselling novel “Because I Hate South Korea” has big influence towards the restless young generation in Korea at the moment. Here are the references about his book (in English articles): Young South Koreans call their country โ€˜hellโ€™ and look for ways out, Author expounds on ‘Hell Joseon’, Why young people seeking to leave?

In the interview with Chosun, Jang Kang Myung reveals that he calls Yoo Ah In his mentor and sings him praises. Here’s an excerpt from the interview~

Q. Your plans for 2016?
A. I plan on publishing a book every two months. They will be fiction, non-fiction, and essays.

Q. You are running/working hard like a man with no tomorrow.
A. I’m actually stimulated by Yoo Ah In. I really respect this professional man. First, he established the “Secret Love Affair” syndrome, then he filmed “Veteran”. He finished “Veteran” and started filming “Sado” immediately. Nonetheless, do you see how he acted differently in each work? In addition, without taking a break, he started shooting “Six Flying Dragons”. From a young man falling in love with a middle-aged woman, to a third-generation chaebol, to Prince Sado. This ambitious man, all of this immersion he does when he acts, I look at him and say “ah! How fierce is that?!” Him not being able to sleep because of his work. That’s why I made a schedule for myself, to arrange my sleeping and writing. I want to work harder.

Q. So are saying that Yoo Ah In is your rival?
A. Not a rival, I call him a teacher/mentor (smiles). I watch Yoo Ah In and learn from him. The enormous efforts he exerted, the outstanding results he gets, his fast tempo. Yoo Ah In is a also a comforting inspiration. He is under a lot of media exposure, yet he keeps on transforming, so the public won’t get tired with him. But I also worry that as a writer, producing lots of works might not have the same selling power like with Yoo Ah In (laughs).

How awesome is that really? It speaks volumes about Yoo Ah In’s talent, good vibes, and intellectual depth. This young man inspires people from all ages and careers. So proud of him!

Actually, Yoo Ah In is not just swarmed with fangirls and academic admirers, because we know that he has quite many fan boys too ๐Ÿ˜€

Besides Ji Chang Wook and Park Seo Jun, actor Ji Soo (Doctors) admits that he’s a fan of Yoo Ah In as well. Remember when he brought the coffee truck to “Six Flying Dragons” filming location for Byun Yo Han on Feb.4? At that time, he took the chance to pose together with Yoo Ah In gleefully. He, Byun Yo Han and Yoo Ah In posted their photos in their own instagrams as well~

In the TV interview with SBS morning news which covered “Six Flying Dragons” BTS, Ji Soo appeared with his coffee truck and said, “I’m a fan of Yoo Ah In sunbaenim. Thanks to Byun Yoo Han hyung’s filming of Six Flying Dragons, I went to cheer him [Byun Yo Han] on, and I got to see Yoo Ah In sunbaenim and greet him too.”

He added, “At first when I saw Yoo Ah In, it was difficult for me to act friendly [chit-chat with him], because I was too excited just by looking at him, meeting with him. I wish that I would have the opportunity to work together with him. I’m cheering for this to happen with my two hands.” He was laughing and raising both hands when he said this~^^

And speaking of coffee truck, Yoo Ah In continues his tradition in sending the coffee truck to his friends. On June 14, Yoo Ah In sent a coffee truck to the filming set of “King’s Case Files” for actors Ahn Jae Hong (“Reply 1988”) & Lee Sun Gyun. It seems that Yoo Ah In made acquaintance with Ahn Jae Hong after they met in Baeksang Arts Awards and took picture together with Reply 1988 casts at the backstage. He probably loves the drama ^^

Meanwhile, art exhibition events in his artist studio, Studio Concrete, keeps coming in during these past two months. To celebrate Vogue Korea’s 20th anniversary, Vogue Korea held a guerilla photo exhibition “Translation” in Studio Concrete, June 17~19. The exhibition showcased the Balenciaga unreleased 2016 pre-fall campaign photographed by Print & Contact’s Mark Borthwick.

Then, Yoo Ah In posed with Vogue Korea’s editor in chief and Balenciaga Korea’s rep in Studio Concrete on the exhibition opening day, June 18, in all-black again^^

And of course, Vogue featured his face at the Vogue 2oth anniversary party in House of Dior, Seoul, June 21. Yoo Ah In is the first male actor who grace Vogue Korea’s front cover in 2015. It is also unprecedented that there are 3 different versions of the cover with Yoo Ah In! (See here). In celebrating Vogue 20th anniversary, Vogue showed one of those three covers at the Vogue20 Photo Exhibition in House of Dior~

Following Vogue20 Balenciaga x Mark Borthwick exhibition, Studio Concrete held another painting exhibition by artist Noh Sang Ho, called “Daily Fiction-Tracing”, June 23~July 17.

Our Master Sik, being a good CEO, promoted this exhibition by posting the ad in his instagram as well ^^ And as usual, Yoo Ah In came to the opening day, right after he finished with the McCafe Photo Event, June 23~

Keeping up with his social activities, Yoo Ah In went to his friend’s birthday dinner on Saturday, June 18. Look at him smiling wide in his white crisp shirt ๐Ÿ˜€

On Sunday, June 19, Yoo Ah In made his time with UAA employees/staff and actress Song Hye Kyo to attend the UAA staff’s wedding. Wearing all-black again, Yoo Ah In looks really fresh ๐Ÿ™‚

Yoo Ah In posed with the little one and gave his signature to the wedding guest too ๐Ÿ˜€

While he’s busy with the off-screen works, Yoo Ah In still has big influence in Korea’s big screen. On the June 24, the public voted Yoo Ah In as one of the best Korean actors, and he’s also the youngest of all the actors on the list!

Yoo Ah In has been named as one of the best actor in an email survey of 10,286 people by the Chosun Ilbo and ticketing site Max Movie. He is also the youngest actor on the list of Top 10 Best Korean Actors.

The average age of best actors and actresses was higher than the average age of “popular” actors/actresses. The top 10 actors were in their 40s or over, except for Ha Jung Woo and Yoo Ah In. Their average age was 44.3, while the average age of the best actresses was closer to 50 at 47.1 years.

Veteran actors/actresses such as Song Kang Ho, Kim Hye Soo, Jeon Do Yeon, and Hwang Jung Min have always been in the top slots since the survey first began in 2006. All four are all in their 40s, while only a few stars in their 20s made it into the top 10. The results clearly reflect the changing demographic of moviegoers in Korea.

The only young stars who made it into the top 10 best actors and actresses this year was Chun Woo Hee (born April 1987), and Yoo Ah In (born October 1986).

A movie producer said, “Actors whose work is below par get a cold reception from audiences these days. Regardless of their age or looks, those with proven acting skills keep getting juicy parts.” Neat!

On June 30, Yoo Ah In held a farewell party for one of Studio Concrete artists. They had a dinner with the whole staff in a warm atmosphere~

He posted the photo after the party, with caption: “Love my family! This person and that person too. They’re all precious. @studioconcrete” ~ Awww!

Besides supporting the budding local artists, Yoo Ah In still continued his charitable action too. Although he wasn’t participated personally, Yoo Ah In’s Valentino suit went to charity auction and sold with high price.

Yoo Ah In’s Valentino red checkered plaid suit has sold with price โ‚ฉ 680,000 in a charity auction held by LG through the in-house portal site, which was held on June 20-24. The Valentino suit was the one that Yoo Ah In wore when he played “James Bond” at the LG U+ commercial film (CF) last year. (See here).

Official said, “Yoo Ah In’s checkered suit was the most coveted item in the auction. The auction started with the price โ‚ฉ 260,000 but the price has jumped, and the final price fixed in โ‚ฉ 680,000 (approx. $592).”

This year the proceeds from the auction is โ‚ฉ 22 million and will be donated to a Special Needs and Learning Disabilities School in Gwangju. Let’s give them applause!

Anyway, Yoo Ah In is still the topic of this month. MBC Section TV did some flashback for Korea’s popularity stars early this July, including Yoo Ah In. Everyone always said that Yoo Ah In’s debut on the screen was in the 2004 series “Banolim” (“Sharp”). Surprisingly, MBC revealed that actually Yoo Ah In made his debut as a cameo, in the 2003 SBS sitcom “Honest Living” (“Do The Right Thing”). Check out the video~

Remember Gray said that he’s a fan of Yoo Ah In? Well, it seems his “fanboying” nearly reciprocate since Yoo Ah In is a fan of rapper BewhY, and Gray is BewhY’s producer and “Show Me The Money 5” (SMTM 5) judge as well! His support to BewhY made a lot of “Show Me The Money” fans very happy!

Yoo Ah In posted “Show Me The Money Season 5” screencapture in his instagram on July 5, which showed BewhY’s performing on the stage. Yoo Ah In used the lyrics of the song itself to praise BewhY.

In the lyrics, the rapper BewhY says, “I’m for sure on another level, I don’t need fortune”. Yoo Ah In changed the lyrics to, “For sure you are another level, you don’t fortune.” Awww! I bet the rapper, and Gray the producer, are over the moon.

Still from the TV, on the July 10th broadcast of MBC Section TV, MC Park Seul Gi invited actress Jung Yumi (“Discovery of Romance”) as the guest star. On this day, Jung Yumi is promoting her new movie “Train to Busan”.

In the interview, Jung Yumi says she’s blessed by having wise men as her partners in her movies. To this, Park Seul Gi mentions Yoo Ah In’s name and asks about her relationship with Yoo Ah In. Jung Yumi answers, “Please, don’t mistake us for the lovers.”

The show explains that Yoo Ah In and Jung Yumi have acted together in the movies “Shims Family” (2007) and “Tough As Iron” (2013). They have been best friends for years, and are voted by public as best boyfriend-girlfriend in the Korean showbiz as well.

Park Seul Gi asks, “Then what is actually Yoo Ah In to you?”, to which Jung Yumi answers, “He’s like a mountain. You know the mountainous kind of thing? He’s like that of a big mountain.”

Park Seul Gi asks again, “I heard that Yoo Ah In is a slightly cynical man too.” Jung Yumi answers, “Yes, he’s very cynical. Sometimes I’m scared of him too (laughing)”.

Talking about Yoo Ah In and his films, Taiwanese actor Darren Wang (also known as Wang Da Lu) recently expressed interest in the world of Korean movies, and in Yoo Ah In’s character in the 2015 blockbuster “Veteran”.

On July 13, Darren Wang held a fan meeting in Seoul at Ewha Womans University for the film “Our Times”. At the press conference for the event, the actor praised “Veteran” and showed his desire to play the role that was played by Yoo Ah In in the movie.

To the question asking about the possibility of future Korean projects, he said, “I think Korean movie and TV productions do a good job of presenting the perfect texture and element. I wish to appear in Korean movies. Just recently I watched this fun Korean film ‘Veteran’. The action is very good, and the comical element makes it even better.”

He added, “The character played by actor Yoo Ah In is really interesting. I really want to try playing that role.”

In related to “Veteran”, the 2015 highest-grossing movie is going to be re-made by China.

In the press conference of Shanghai International Film Festival last month (where “Veteran” and “Sado” were showing during the course of festival), the film distributor CJ E&M revealed that they had a Korea-China co-production lineup for the Chinese version of “Veteran”. Chinese actor Sung Hong Lei is being courted to play Hwang Jung Min’s character.

Chinese version of “Veteran is on the stage of script re-writing and casting process for the rest of the casts. The movie is expected to open in 2017.

So curious who’s gonna take Yoo Ah In’s role the wicked Jo Tae Oh, and will he deliver? Perhaps Darren Wang is looking for it now ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good luck!

Once again, Yoo Ah In and Studio Concrete team showed their support to their fellow artist by visiting ERD gallery to see House of Fin Juhl exhibition on July 13. He was wearing the iconic 1TO10 series tee designed by his Studio Concrete team again~

Not only does he support the fellow artists, Yoo Ah In proves that he always supports his fellow besties in “Six Flying Dragons”!

Remember he and Yoon Kyun Sang showed their support to Byun Yo Han by coming to Byun Yo Han’s musical? Now, for his former “bodyguard”, Yoo Ah In sent a food truck to his drama filming location, “Doctors”, on July 14 ๐Ÿ˜€

The food truck company posted the food truck photos in instagram and praised Yoo Ah In a lot.

Yoo Ah In wrote an adorable witty message for Yoon Kyun Sang on the banner around the coffee truck, “Moohyul-ah, good job working hard even though itโ€™s hot out. From your former master, Lee Bang Won.” So cute!

To show his gratitude, Yoon Kyun Sang posted his photo posing in front of the coffee truck sent by Yoo Ah In in his instagram account~

…and parodies his own โ€œSix Flying Dragonsโ€ character with a caption that says, โ€œWarrior Moo Hyul! I will overcome the summer heat and complete filming without a single mistakeโ€ฆ!!โ€.

He also added various hashtags: “Uhm Hongsik,ย  Yoo Ah In, Lee Bang Won, my lord, your highness, master, hyung-nim, hyung, and mentioned Yoo Ah In’s instagram id; @hongsickย  ๐Ÿ˜€

Awwwn these two are super adorbssss! Hope their bromance last forever!

Now, here’s our boy with some fans (and a little fan), who bumped into him somewhere outside his studio, June 22 and June 30 ๐Ÿ™‚

How cute! ๐Ÿ˜€

Again, Yoo Ah In showed his solid support to bewhY by posting proof of him voting for the rapper in SMTM 5 season finale, July 15 ๐Ÿ˜€ He added a hashtag: “next level”, a witty remark after bewhY’s lyrics “another level”. He must be happy that the rapper won the competition ^^

PS: apparently, he had “500 unread messages”, which caught fans eyes ๐Ÿ˜€

I can picture Yoo Ah In and BewhY post a proof shot of them rubbing shoulder in the future ๐Ÿ˜€ In the meantime, happy summer!
