Yoo Ah In’s “Six Flying Dragons” Wins Best Drama in the 2016 Seoul International Drama Awards
Seoul International Drama Awards is an annual award show for excellence in television drama production based in Seoul, South Korea. This year, with 265 entries from 51 different countries, only 28 dramas were nominated in the Program categories and 28 artists were nominated in the Individual categories.
The winners of The 11th Seoul International Drama Awards, also known as Seoul Drama Awards (SDA), were announced on September 8th, 2016.
“Six Flying Dragons” (“The Roots of Throne”) bags home the 2016 Top Excellence Award (Best Serial Drama Award) in the Program Category.
The 50-episode series, which aired from October 2015 to March 2016, beat “A Scholar Dream of Woman” (China), “Endless Love” (Turkey), “Lord of Shanghai” (Hong Kong), “Moses and the Ten Commandments” (Brazil, “My Lovely Hope” (Argentina), “Orphan Flowers” (Turkey), and “The White Slave” (Colombia).
In his acceptance speech, “Six Flying Dragons” PD Shin Gyung Su said, “I feel so happy and grateful that at the end of this long journey of more than a year, we arrived at the significant recognition. I would like to thank the two writers, staff and actors who have suffered a lot through a long period of filming the drama.”
He added, “Four years ago I stood in this spot for ‘Tree With Deep Roots’ (‘Six Flying Dragons’ sequel). Four years after the sequel, I’m happy to stand in this place again for the prequel. Six people being the heroes/lead characters is a peculiar thing in a drama, however we received lots of support from the viewers. Thanks so much to all the viewers.”
As previously reported, Yoo Ah In and “Six Flying Dragons” were nominated in the competitive categories, for Best Actor and Best Drama, against other international actors and dramas.
Yoo Ah In competed against strong contenders, such as Daniel Cumberbatch (UK), Anthony Wong (Hong Kong), Antonio Perez (Mexico), Azat Seitmetov (Kazakhstan), David Fukamachi (Sweden), and Ken Jeong (US).
While “Six Flying Dragons” wins Best Drama for the second time following the victory in the 2016 Korea Broadcasting Awards, this time Yoo Ah In, who won Baeksang Arts Awards for his performance in this drama, has to give up the best actor title to Azat Seitmetov from Kazakhstan.
Still proud of him being the nominee for Best Actor in the competitive categories among other best international actors! 😀 I’m sure all the nominees in the Best Actor category deserved it.
Yoo Ah In himself didn’t attend the ceremony due to Studio Concrete’s projects deadline (new clothes design “Aero Space”, and two upcoming art exhibitions for this weekend).
