Yoo Ah In Donates Da Vinci Codex Exhibition Tickets Worth 40 Million Won to Children Foundation

Yoo Ah In, as the founder of Studio Concrete, is appointed as the public relations ambassador for Da Vinci Codex Exhibition. He participates in  the Da Vinci Codex Exhibition Audio Guide Narration to help the visitors to interpret the meaning of this exhibition.

Da Vinci Codex or The Codex Leicester (also briefly known as Codex Hammer), is a collection of famous scientific writings by Leonardo da Vinci. The manuscript holds the record for the sale price of any book, when it was sold to Bill Gates at Christie’s auction house on 11 November 1994 in New York for US$30,802,500. The Codex consists of 18 sheets of paper, each folded in half and written on both sides, forming the complete 72-page document. At one time the sheets were bound together, but they are now displayed separately. It was handwritten in Italian by Leonardo, using his characteristic mirror writing, and supported by copious drawings and diagrams.

The Codex provides an insight into the inquiring mind of the definitive Renaissance artist, scientist and thinker as well as an exceptional illustration of the link between art and science and the creativity of the scientific process. The manuscript does not take the form of a single linear script, but is rather a mixture of Leonardo’s observations and theories on astronomy; the properties of water, rocks, and fossils; air, and celestial light. One of the topics in the Codex, he described the phenomenon of planetshine one hundred years before the German astronomer Johannes Kepler proved it.

The exhibition quoted as saying, “Just like Da Vinci, founder of Studio Concrete, Yoo Ah In is an actor who’s slowly piling his own records too.”

Yoo Ah In gave his forewords to the exhibition as well. In the video, he said, “We all leave our own records in various forms. Now, who leaves behind the living records today? What inspiration will you give?”

He added, “Contemporary writers are breaking the stereotypes together. They are not limiting themselves to art. And still, they are not overdoing it (with the no boundaries thing). It is similar to Da Vinci’s paintings. Wouldn’t you like to have an exhibition that breathes fresh air into the stereotypes?”

He hopes through his donation in exhibition tickets, the underprivileged children will be able to enjoy the cultural experience and have more chance to become the future leader.

“It is a great honor for me to introduce new approaches and interpretations on Leonardo da Vinci. Rather than seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s completed work, it’s interesting to see the exhibition itself as a result of the contemporary artists working together on Da Vinci’s vast record,” says Yoo Ah In.
