Yoo Ah In took the helm as the creative director. His personal assistant, Nikolai, and Studio Concrete photographer Kim Jae Hoon, worked together on all his pictorials. His stylist-friends, model-friends, and even “Burning” film crew also helped in the photoshoot, which took place in “Burning” film location!

The magazine contains 14 pages of Yoo Ah Inโ€™s interview and pictorials.ย Yoo Ah In himself, generously shared all the pictorials, the behind-the-photoshoot and even the B-cuts of GQ Korea in his instagram ๐Ÿ˜€

In the pictorials including the B-cut photos, Yoo Ah In oozed his natural sexiness with sizzling hot and raw charms, while donning Gucci or just being shirtless showing his delicious skin and “abs”. Check these drool-worthy photos out!

Out of many questions asked by GQ in the long interview, here’s an excerpt where Yoo Ah In talks about how his acting transformed after filming “Burning”, about the essence of being an artist, consuming painkillers, the words he hears the most, and his favorite shows on Netflix.

Q: How will your acting transform when Burning is over? It seems sort of revolutionary.

Yoo Ah In: Somehow, my previous roles in ‘Sado” and “Veteran” didn’t show strong expressions or over-the-top or excessive emotions on the screen, but rather quietly expressing themselves from the inside out. But even though my previous roles didn’t have much lines/dialogues, I still had to perform good reactions. This time, it’s more than that. Instead of thinking, “I must create my face/mimic like this to show how I feel”, I have to reveal the process of how I feel inside and my own inner emotion. I have to perform in front of the camera without any obsession with expression [I should have no pressure to perform/act in front of the camera]. I have always been thinking about it as a goal, but the scene that shows such acting style, in fact, has long since been denied in South Korea today.

Q: “I am an artist”. What do you think of this sentence?

Yoo Ah In: Recently, I came up with the idea that I am a person faithful to my roles. When I’m immersed in my roles, I got enormous moments. As an actor who plays the characters, as a normal son, as the Studio Concrete owner… I don’t think I’m a good actor, but I’m struggling/working hard to perform my roles well. Everyone might be surprised, but I think Studio Concrete is one of the best managed-galleries in Korea. How many galleries are able to hold various exhibitions and sell a lot of paintings worth ten million Won? Even so, I am very confident [that Studio Concrete can do it]. I think the results have proved what I have done so far. Authenticity is my essence, and I keep on discovering the synergies created by the conflicts and movement with the outside world.

Q: Where do you get the courage to say these words without hesitation/a doubt?

Yoo Ah In: Actually, I don’t know how big the universe is– even, do astronomers know about one percent of the universe? I just speak with the knowledge that I have and talk about the times. I think that the most important factor as an artist is to reflect the present feeling and the times. Nina Simone once said, “How can you be an artist and not reflect the times?”. I fully agree with her, that sentence sounds perfect. The artist’s job is not only dressing elegantly and posing like a model.

Q: What is the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning, and what do you hear the most about these days?

Yoo Ah In: Thinking about, “my body hurts so much I feel like I might die”? Haha. It’s true. I feel sore like my back is broken. I’m living with painkillers/headache medicine. Or, thinking, “am I overworking my body?”. The most frequent words I hear these days are, “you are full of love”.

Q: What do you watch on Netflix these days?

Yoo Ah In: Documentary, drama… Netflix has a big impact on the public; looking to the future, awakening people, presenting and suggesting new concepts. They have some contents that we won’t be able to watch on Korean TV even 100 years from now. The content gap [between the two] is ridiculous. In some ways, Netflix seems to be throwing a ‘wake up call’ at us. It’s throwing new ideas through a rational, logical, sentimental, and aesthetic way.

Complete translations on his GQ Korea interview will be up soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Following the interview and pictorials, GQ Korea held the GQ Night or GQ Men of the Year Awards party on December 6th. Yoo Ah In attended the party in semi-formal style and he looked happy, mingled with ease, despite his struggle with Megalia’s bullying. Check out the videos and the photos from the event~
