Yoo Ah In is Nominated for Best Actor in A Film and Best Actor in A TV Series at the 20th Director’s Cut Awards
The 20th Director’s Cut Awards For Film and Series is set to be held on February 24, the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK), which organizes the events, announced on February 9 along with the list of nominees.
Yoo Ah In gets nominated for Best Actor in both film and series categories for his performances in the critically-acclaimed film VOICE OF SILENCE and Netflix series HELLBOUND.
This is Yoo Ah In’s second nomination in the Director’s Cut Awards during his acting career. He has already secured Best New Actor prize under his belt at the 2008 Director’s Cut Awards for his performance in the movie ANTIQUE.
VOICE OF SILENCE gets 4 nods for the Best Actor, Best Director (Hong Eui Jeong), Best Screenplay (Hong Eui Jeong), and Best New Director (Hong Eui Jeong) in the film categories. In the TV series category, HELLBOUND gets 6 nods for Best Actor (in which Yoo Ah In and Park Jung Min are nominated together), Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best New Actor and Best New Actress.
In the Best Actor in the Film category, Yoo Ah In competes with Lee Byung Hun, Sol Kyung Gu, Lee Sung Min, and Byun Yo Han, while in the TV Series he’s head to head with Lee Jung Jae, Jung Hae In, Koo Kyo Hwan, and fellow HELLBOUND star Park Jung Min.
According to the DGK, the Director’s Cut Awards went through different transformations since its launch in 1998, to cater the changing trends. A major change this year is the addition of drama series that became immensely popular on OTT services during pandemic. Moreover, as the events for 2020 and 2021 had to be canceled amid the pandemic, this year’s event will combine all the films and drama series released since 2020.
Unlike existing film awards, the Director’s Cut Awards selects nominees and winners through votes from about 300 Korean directors. The awards ceremony is also held formally, without any evening gowns or a red carpet. So, this is similar to Chunsa Film Awards.
The 20th Director’s Cut Awards will be streamed live at 7 p.m. on February 24 through Naver TV, VLive and NOW.
