[FULL ITW TRANSLATION] Yoo Ah In graces the twin covers of ALLURE Korea April 2022 issue (feat. Chantecaille)

Yoo Ah In is back to star as the twin covers of ALLURE Korea for April issue. The April issue of ‘Green Allure’, which returns every year, contains Allure’s concerns in our green earth. This year, the magazine wants to raise their voice in “the bigger things that small actions bring together” with CHANTECAILLE and their brand ambassador Yoo Ah In for the evergreen April.

Q: A new thought came to me while reading ‘Yoo Ah In’s words’ [his past writings]. There must have been a time when you could speak up without hesitation. Since when did you become less talkative?

Yoo Ah In: Well, I don’t know. I’m not sure, but I think it’s more accurate to say that the number of (my) “online words” have decreased rather than the energy to talk/becoming less talkative.

Q: Your remarks often seem to lead to all kinds of misunderstanding and misreading. Perhaps, nothing will happen if you say nothing at all. If you don’t say anything, maybe you won’t feel sad and lonely. What do you think?

Yoo Ah In: Even when I say something, I still feel sad and lonely. Misunderstanding and misreading always follow all (my) speeches and actions. In this world where people’s language/speaking skills are abnormally higher than listening skills, silence is often the correct answer.

Q: Do you feel discouraged/lose your energy? I’m worried that you’ll let go of a lot of things you really want to do because of this. It’s not like Yoo Ah In’s style.

Yoo Ah In: Though I suffer from decreased stamina and chronic fatigue that I’ve never felt before, I don’t really try to do lots of things or pass them over. It’s not about letting go, it’s about trying to accept it; whether it’s an event, a phenomenon, or a person.

Q: So, what about ‘Yoo Ah In’s writings’? You’ve once said that you like the feeling of finding your own voice in writings.

Yoo Ah In: I feel a little troublesome these days. It feels like the voice has become unnatural.

Q: Is there anything you are interested in writing about? Will you observe, think, question and record your internal/inner changes?

Yoo Ah In: I do record various ideas for ongoing projects and works, but I don’t seem to materialize them very much.

Q: Do you still think writings/words are your most honest and personal mirror? Or is it different now?

Yoo Ah In: I haven’t looked at that mirror much recently. Those narcissistic, self-disillusioned dramas are embarrassing and tiresome.

Q: What do you believe in? Could there be such a thing as unconditional belief?

Yoo Ah In: There’s no such thing as unconditional belief. Such beliefs are more like fantasies and desires. I only believe what’s worth believing. Anyone who believes without a doubt will recognize it.

Q: What does it mean to you to spend money, time and effort on supporting and advocating for [nameless] artists you care about? [T/N: Through Studio Concrete, Yoo Ah In has been supporting the budding and unknown artists for several years, such as the rapper-producer APRO, Buddhist painter Park Grim, and more]

Yoo Ah In: It’s one of my ways to give back to society what I’ve achieved in my life.

Q: Is there a particular name [of artist] that you’ve been following recently or you want to boast about?

Yoo Ah In: This must be done carefully. Who am I, anyway? [T/N: He means to say that he’s not an expert enough in art to boast about an artist’s works]

Q: A new president has been elected. What can you say about the current politics?

Yoo Ah In: Every time I blow out my birthday candles, my wish is always ‘world peace’. Haha 😀

Q: How important are your cats, Dobby and Jangbi, to you?

Yoo Ah In: Can this be fully expressed in words? Love seems to become shabby the moment words express it. Even if love becomes shabby, it is still called love, and I live with them as my life companions. I think it’s an amazing thing.

Q: Is there anything that has changed in you or made you rethink while living a loving life with your cats?

Yoo Ah In: I’ve been constantly verifying my sense of responsibility up until now. I also have constant doubts about my definition of love itself.

Q: What does it mean to you to join Chantecaille, a brand that actively participates in the environmental movement and is concerned about creating a more livable planet with ALLURE every April through ‘Green Allure’?

Yoo Ah In: I’m very supportive of your activities and would like to join even in small roles. I’m interested in many issues such as environment, climate, inequality, hunger, and economic inequality/the gap between rich and poor, but I can’t talk much about them since I don’t have enough knowledge, and I have no choice but to express my emotions without sufficient understanding, knowledge and reflection on them.

Q: As far as I know, you’re also using Chantecaille products on regular basis. I heard that even the brand’s head office knew it. So, what products do you usually use?

Yoo Ah In: I guess the head office noticed it because I often purchased [the products] through online shopping mall using my real name. I always carry Chantecaille Pure Rosewater face mist with me.

Q: Do you still hang out/go out drinking with your close friends these days? Time like that is precious, right?

Yoo Ah In: I think we dine a lot more than drinking together, gradually. It’s hard to spend time together unless you have someone you cherish or want to cherish.

Q: How about dancing to loud music? Don’t you miss those days when you danced all the way till dawn? [T/N: It’s obvious that the reporter knows that Yoo Ah In loves clubbing]

Yoo Ah In: It’s not a bad thing to get drunk and watch the sunrise on the days when you’re physically fit and in high spirits. I miss those moments so much, but it’s a pity that my current physical strength is not good enough. Also, I can dance well at home alone (laughs).

Q: What about love? What happens to you when you fall in love?

Yoo Ah In: (Becoming) cute? 😀

Q: I hope you stay healthy. That way you can summon up the courage to fight again when you need to fight, right? It’s important to protect what you hold dear.

Yoo Ah In: I have decided not to fight but to love. I want to protect the things I love by loving what I love. I don’t want to waste my health on fighting. Born to love. Live with love.

Thank you so much for posying the new interview! ❤️ He sounds calmer and so chill, which is good, but also exhausted. I hope he gets a much needed rest after all the hard works!
